Hello All-
I will be staying at the Epic Hotel for a conference next week and I am looking for suggestions for restaurants in the area especially for dinner. I already have reservations at the restaurant in the hotel but what else is in the area? TIA Adi

We like Fratelli Milano, Eos, Cviche 105, and happy hour bar food at Truluck's w/half price cocktails, half price lounge menu, and 25% off all bottles of wine from 4:30 to 7:00pm daily and all night Sunday.

Believe me, I have given Area 31 a lot of chances...lunches, brunches and dinners. It is so convenient to me and I really wish it was better. But it is bad to mediocre. And ridiculously expensive to boot.

It is too bad - it is such an attractive place and you can get a very decent cocktail there. They must have some kind of marketing machine to be touted in national publications all the time.

Truluck's is a nice addition to the area. Nothing unique, just good American seafood with quality ingredients. Actually, I think that makes it unique for the area.

Personally, I ate once at DB Bistro Moderne and it was not a home run. Everything I ordered was executed successful, but the other 7 diners were disappointed. I sampled a few of their dishes and I would agree. One fish dish was A) Fishy and B) not the fish advertised which is too big a mistake for a restaurant carrying Boulud's name.

River Oyster Bar does good American seafood with quality ingredients. Oceanaire was too, actually, at least until Landry's took it over and Chef Sean Bernal left.

I haven't been back to Oceanaire since Bernal left. Has it really gone downhill since then?

I've not been since he left, but I got a sense that his leaving was tied to lowered standards from the corporate overlords. But I can't say from personal experience.

The Epic Hotel has both Area 31 (good seafood place, recently changed chefs) and Zuma (upscale Japanese, sushi and robata). Across the street in the Marriott Marquis is Daniel Boulud's new DB Bistro Moderne, which is fancier than most places calling themselves a "bistro" but not completely outrageously priced. It's not quite my style of Italian, but Il Gabbiano is also very close. Across the Brickell Bridge, I like River Oyster Bar for oysters and seafood dishes. I've had hit and miss experiences at Eos in the Viceroy Hotel - some dishes excellent, others not so much.

Please, for the love of God, make sure your reservation is at Zuma and not Area 31.

Bad experience at Area 31? Have not been in a while, definitely not since Chef Critchley left.

Hello-we will not have a car but a cab is possible. As far as fare we are open but probably italian, fish small plates would be preferable with price probably 50-75 a person all in including wine.
          Thanks in advance
