jen kalb Jan 20, 2011 09:25 AM

Its not obvious why the map on this NYC thread is a San Francisco street grid (I think its the default map)

We have identified an issue in IE only when there are more than 26 restaurants linked to a post. We'll get that cleared up soon. Sorry about that.

I see the right map of NY when I go to that post. Maybe log out and then back in and see if that doesn't clear up the problem for you.

Can you try clearing your browser cache? It looks fine to me, but there might be something sorta stuck for you.

I just re-entered that page, newly logged on a different computer in a different location that was just "cleaned up" today by my office tech staff, and it also showes Lower Haight. rather than the correct map. go figure. Could there be too many posts with recommendations?

It should just stop adding them to the map after 26 of them are reached. That's a very strange thing you're seeing.

I think the system defaults to SF. In some circumstances the restaurant page comes up with SF as the entry screen, for no apparent reason also (havent seen this recently..

The restaurant page generally comes up with whatever region you last searched on or viewed a restaurant in. If it wasn't in one of the defined regions, however, it should go back to the last region you were in.

It seems like this might be a browser specific problem, as I'm able to replicate it in IE, but it works fine in Firefox and Chrome.

I'm seeing the San Franciso map also when I click on that link. It doesn't have any balloons to mark the restaurants, just the street map.

Is there something in the cookie that indicates your home board?

If I'm on my profile page, and click the restaurant tab from there, I automatically get directed to the San Francisco Bay Area restaurants. I always assumed that somewhere I was flagged as being in the Bay Area.

So maybe for some reason, Jen is flagged by the system as being from the Bay Area.

Yelp has an annoying 'feature' where whatever your first review is on that site, that's what it assumes is your home and always throws you to that location. On my SF computer it set me in Milpitas ... which was sort of ok because I would see a lot of info for that area I never would have otherwise.

However, the first time I posted on Yelp with my new notebook was in Ozana, Texas ... and now that is my default .... which is damn annoying.

Anyway ... the point is ... maybe something on this system flags the home board of someone for whatever reason ... and if for some reason there is a map problem, it just displays the map local to the poster .

Or ... because Chow is located in SF, the system default is the SF map, etc.

The problem with the linked topic is there are more than 26 restaurants and the last two don't have balloons. Jen linked to a restaurant that exceeded the limit in her post.

Why don't you try adding another restaurant Jacqueline to that post temporarily and see if you get the SF or other map.

I'm seeing the SF map too, and SF is not my home area. I'm using IE8.

                      Ditto on IE8
