1st date scramble

So I was all excited to take my date out to Tapeo Bar and Tapas tomorrow evening. I had no idea that you needed to make a reservation a few days in advance. They have no tables or bar places available all night!! For those who have been there, is this place on the smallish size? Anyways, normally I would be a bit more organized but we had just settled on a time last night, which is why I only called at noon today for the reservation. I now have a table secured at Pullman for tomorrow but I was wondering if there was another place that I should consider. (Pintxo is not really a viable option).

Thanks guys for your help!

It is now tomorrow and the date is impending. We'll need a follow-up by no later than Sunday, waz

My now bf also wanted to take me to tapeo for our first date. At the time, it was under construction. We went to Casa Tapas instead and it was great.

Maybe if you didn't end up doing tapas you can go there another time

you can always try calling back the day of, if case there were no shows or cancellations. or try a later reservation? or beg? but that might get you a bad table. I've never had issues getting 9pm reservations calling 2-3 hrs in advance, but I see that I was just lucky...
I really like casa tapas and I've done walk-ins there, I think I may even like it better than Tapeo in a way. It is also closer to the centre of the city. good luck:)

I would second Casa Tapas- I have been there with friends and the tapas were very nice and it was not too noisy- maybe even a better choice for a date from a conversational point of view. They were even most accomadating for a non-meat eating friend who also couldn't eat shellfish, and often in Spanish restaurants that results in scaping the bottom of the menu (so to speak) for less popular options.

If you are looking for someplace bustling and fun with small tapas-like dishes, there is always Ouzeri on St. Denis, although it is by no means Spanish!

I'm glad to hear that Tapeo is at least taking taking their calls again. For awhile, all our calls went to voicemail. The place is not tiny, but for dinners on Fridays, if I call Wednesday, I will be usually be able to get a table or bar spot, but at a 9:30 or 10pm sitting though. Too bad Pintxo is not really an option. Are you looking for a restaurant similar in ambience to Tapeo (busy and bright, with tables close together) or are you looking for tapas? Do you and your date have similar food tastes? I find that sometimes factors into the sharing part of tapas.

Oops, didn't finish my message. If you are looking for tapas, maybe consider Casa Tapas also?

I spoke with the owner of Tapeo, Sebastian and he sounded nice and told me he would call if something came up. I've never been there before so when I made my original post, I was sort of asking of a combo between a good date place/spanish tapas. Not sure if Pullman is a good compromise. I think my date and I have similar tastes but we've never met before so I guess this is soon to be determined! We did however discuss tapas at some point so I knew that was a good option.

Btw, Pintxo is not an option not because of the food! Long story....thanks for the suggestion on Casa Tapas! Looks great :)

I've been to POP before, could be a possibility.

Have you tried the food at Taza Flores? It's more along the lines of what I was looking for.

You could always sneak in tonight to see if it's acceptable for tomorrow (it's been done in Jdoramas at least). Hopefully the crowd doesn't look like the splash photo on their website.
