If You Blink... You Missed it

Any suggestions on the best out-of-the-way food stops in the Bay Area -- the kind of places that you have to be a local to know about?

The Little Lucca Sandwich Shop on El Camino in South San Francisco. Be sure to get their special sauce!

La Biscotteria in Redwood City. I passed it up so many times on my way to Target, until one day I saw a sign for Pumpkin cannoli (seasonal, and really good). Fantastic biscotti, from the super crunchy variety to the crispy, yet softer ones. I think about the artichoke focaccia a lot, and always scold myself for only getting a quarter sheet.

If it's not busy, have a chat with the lady who runs the front of the store. If you are looking for a certain texture or taste in a biscotti, she'll help you choose and sample! Another note about the store: it's small, but it's packed with things to look at.

Thanks to Chowhound, Yelp, etc., there's really no such thing any more.
