feature request: jump to next "new"
I follow a couple of very long threads (the top chef discussions come to mind). With these, you really need to check them often to avoid becoming hopelessly behind, but it can be tedious to scroll scroll scroll through to find the next new post. I don't know how technically feasible it would be, but it would be great to have some kind of short cut to "jump to the next new post".
Until that feature comes along my work around plan is using word search. If I know the actual date that makes it a no brainer, but even by just using the month and year I can usually zero in pretty fast on the new posts.

that's what i do too...or use the name of the Hound who posted last.

And you can actually remember who the last poster was? You're alot younger than I am, m'dear :)

That info is actually shown (as long as you sort by "last post") when you are looking at the unopened thread before you click on it.

Well, of course, it is! What an idiot I am :) I'd still like the feature though.

Ah, but.... I just did a little test. Recent thread but has 100 replies. linguafood replied last. I searched using her name and a second search using her name and the month and year. It started WAY at the top so still had to scroll all the way through.

My word search can go either direction. So if it's a long thread I usually assume that starting at the back end and working forward is the most logical course of action.

your word search function doesn't have a "next" or "previous" feature that allows you to jump around quickly?

I would LOVE that feature and had thought to recommend it. You were able to describe it WAY better than I could. That would actually be something useful for everyone unlike some of the "enhancements."
