Spanish churros and chocolate

  • 8

I'm on a quest to find churros and chocolate like I loved in Madrid.
The churros should not too sweet, and the hot chocolate should be thick and rich.
I would prefer some place in the east bay.

Thanks

  1. The one place I can think of is Tacubaya on 4th St. in Berkeley. The churros are made to order, but the chocolate is Mexican rather than Spanish-styled.

    1. Not the East Bay but I'm sure you'll be pleased with churros y chocolate at Contigo in Noe Valley, SF.

Also not in the East Bay, but Chilango on Church has them.

Chilango's Mexican. There must be at least 50 Mexican places in the East Bay with churros, but they're unlikely to have the kind of hot chocolate kungful is looking for.

Yes, I am fully aware that it's Mexican. But they do serve delicious churros and hot chocolate.

      2. Maybe Barlata or the Shattuck branch of Cesar.

Barlata has had churros with a chocolate sauce as a desert in the recent past. I don't know about now, though.

        2. Bocanova in Jack London Square has them on the dessert menu with chocolate not hot as in the beverage but you dip them in the chocolate. They were very tasty.
