Bars with good tequila selections

Raids Jan 19, 2011 12:00 PM

Anybody know of some? Specifically, I recently heard of a drink called a bandero (i.e. Mexican flag) that is basically a shot of lime, a shot of tequila, and a shot of sangrita (orange juice, grenadine, and hot chiles) that you alternately sip.

Okay, okay, so I heard of it from wikipedia, but that doesn't mean I want one any less. Help?

Probably that place at Pershing and Glebe, old El Paso or something. They have a vast assortment of tequilas and mescals. I would stop up the street at El Charro Caminante and get a sack of goat tacos to bring with, though.

Thanks! I know I'm pushing it, but how about within the District limits?

I can't tell if Oyamel has sangrita. I'll check with Ceiba since I walk by that place everyday. Yesterday I actually ended up at the bar at Rosa Mexicano, which does indeed serve tequila bandero-style and their sangrita is good and tomato-based with a bit of orange and a good helping of chiles.

Oyamel had a nice sangrita back when they were in Crystal City. Given that the rest of the tequila selections moved to the DC location, I'd imagine the sangrita would have as well.

Thanks! I will definitely give it a shot soon and report back. Any particular tequila recommendations? I had the Corazon Anejo at Rosa Mexicano and would like something a little more herbal, I think.
