Thai for dinner at Yonge and St. Clair?

  • c

Anyone know of a Thai restaurant in this location that is still open?

  1. The space that used to be Circle Thai has been converted into Mr. Thai (on Yonge, N of St. Clair), a casual, fast-foody type place that seems to be somewhat decent for what it is. I've been there twice and don't recall what I ordered, although I wasn't unsatisfied. I think they do a big takeout business. So, if lightning-quick service, plastic chairs and harsh lighting are what you're after, go for it.

    1. There is a Thai place a couple of blocks east of Yonge on St. Clair, south side, just west of the Sobeys. I don't go out of my way to eat there but the couple of times I've stopped in the food has been quite respectable.

We ended up at Mr. Thai and were happy with what we had. Standard "Canadian" Thai food, awful lighting and the restaurant to ourselves with the exception of the stream of take out customers which suited us just fine.

Yeah always wanted to try that place, "New Thai Restaurant". Good to know that it's half decent. We usually do takeout at Khmer Thai and Vanipha Lanna on St. Clair W but it's a bit of a hike.

Do you mean Vanipha Lanna on Eglinton West?

Nope, there's one at 863 St. Clair W - Laotian/Thai place. Amazing value, hilarious decor, heavy on the chilies.

I have always found New Thai to be pretty good - I recommend it, as long as you are not expecting something amazing, you will be OK. Not worth travelling far, but as a local place it is a good choice.

We used to go to Vanipha on St. Clair all the time but then we discovered Taste of Thai House on Vaughan just south of St. Clair and we are hooked - it's cheaper and much much better. And they deliver which is great for us. It's definitely a favourite.

Any go-to dishes for New Thai or Taste of Thai House?

Yes - Taste of Thai House - really love the thai spicy eggplant, roasted chili tofu, the ginger garlic shrimp and the green chicken curry.

toveggiegirl, it's confusing but they actually have a different site with a pdf menu on it - this is the menu link below (the other one is old):

Thank you for posting the current menu. :-)

We have also gone to Taste of Thai and thought it wasn't bad, wasn't great but certainly nice to have in our neighbourhood, will go back and try more dishes....loved the spicy eggplant and the garlic & ginger shrimp as well. Not quite in the neighbourhood but reasonably close and which we prefer(so far) is BUO THAI on Avenue Rd near NW corner of Davenport. I would have to say it is our 'current go to' for Thai ...give it a try. A bit more expensive but not by a huge amount.

BUO THAI is still the best by far...it's at Avenue Road and Davenport (NW) prices still reasonable, prompt and courteous service and a nice quiet atmosphere...meter parking after rush hour on Davenport. Have gone to Taste of Thai a couple of times since the last post and to my mind, no comparision...it feels like éat and get out' instead of a place to enjoy your meal...
