Which Neighborhood Service is the best?
Original, Tavern or Bar and Grill? Is there a trick to avoiding a long wait? Will arriving at 5pm be sufficient? Your help is appreciated!

The one you don't go to. The bartenders at the one on Lovers are good. Less so if you're at the Taven. Both have middling dishes which are too expensive. Houstons has better food, execution, and waitstaff.
Try Bolsa, Old Monk, or The Porch for a Dallas specific place with a similar style of menu.
Don't waste your time or money on a Neighborhood Services.

Went to Preston/royal location...there were three of us...I think we ordered a mix of appetizers and entrees to share...probably 6-7 different things...disappointed in everything except the cocktails. Hubby regularly eats at lovers lane...he really likes it. I've heard the same thing from friends about PR location. Food was very bland! I know we got the deviled eggs...big disappointment. I want to like it to support the neighborhood. :(

Tavern was always my personal favorite, over the Lovers location. Haven't been to the bar & grill.

re: loratliff
not just saying this because its my 'hood...but i love the preston forest location.
-its always bumping but quieter than the other locations
-the smoked salmon devilled eggs topped with some sort of famous smoked salmon ;)
-the staff...from hostess on up, everyone is just so nice. not that they aren't at other locations, but particularly at preston forest.i get it, if you live south of NWhwy you aren't going to come up north, but its my favorite location.

Tavern (sitting at the bar) > Lovers > Bar&Grill > Tavern (sitting in the dining room)
The food is roughly equivalent at all three in my experience. Tavern has the edge for cocktails, but I find the dining room to be crowded and uncomfortable. The Bar&Grill is a bit too stodgy for my taste... and the Lovers location strikes a nice balance in between.
I was at the tavern last Saturday at 6ish, and it was mostly empty, so I think arriving early should work well. The "calling ahead" system seems to do exactly what it intends - it puts your name on the wait list 15' earlier. It's not a reservation system... so if you call when they're slammed you'll still have a long wait.

I can only speak for the Tavern on Henderson. Food and drinks are very good. The wait...not so much (which is disappointing, since we live so close and go there often). If you go before 7 on a weekend, you should be okay...and their "calling ahead" system is severely broken (we "called ahead" for a table at 7:30 and got seated at 9:30....what's the point?)
