Groupon: Savant Project...any good?

Today's Groupon is the Savant project on Tremont. I can honestly say this place has seemingly went silent in the media and on Chow since it opened. Is anything on the menu worth trying? I like how they do lunch.

  1. Don't by the Groupon if you haven't already. I got roped into this place when the wife bought a Groupon last year. Poor quality and poorly prepared food. Suffice to say that she apologized when we left the restaurant. I think there may be a review but couldn't readily find it by searching.

Seconded. A "once and never again" experience for me a couple of years ago with completely indifferent service (the hostess was also the bartender, and it was Friday night).

      2. I had a pretty good meal there a couple of years ago, although I can't remember exactly what we got and I've never been back, so obviously it wasn't too memorable. It was a quiet weeknight, and there definitely wasn't any service issues though.

        1. I haven't been there in a couple of years, but always liked the informal vibe and the cooking, which was a little by-the-seat-of-the-pants - Here's my post from a couple of years ago, so take it with a grain of salt...

It's not a place I would go out of the way for with the wife. It's got a grad student / hipster feel and I get the sense that the Mass College of Art may be a big feeder for this place. I like it for what it is, but I honestly don't really appreciate the Groupon thing.

            1. I've been there a few times for drinks & appetizers during off hours. They only have a beer, wine, & cordial license, but they are quite creative with it. I've never had a full meal there, but I've enjoyed what I've gotten. The staff is also very friendly.

I say go for it (especially at half off)!

              1. A sad story, I think. I had a couple of really nice meals here early on, then three indifferent-near-disastrous ones. Terrible service, out of everything on the menu we wanted including several of the drinks, a window seat that was so cold that two of us kept out coats on throughout the meal, and then food that was just OK. Just an atmosphere of indifference and disarray, and a sad change from the cheery mood and tasty food and drnk we'd enjoyed originally.

                1. I'm bumping this to give folks a heads-up: if you bought a Groupon for the Savant Project, you'd better use it right away. They are closing for good this Saturday, 5/21/2011.

Used my groupon last night after seeing that it was about to close. It was..... mediocre. At best. And kind of expensive for that level of mediocrity. I have to agree with the "atmosphere of indifference and disarray" comment above. It was probably only made worse by the impending closure.

Sad, really, because the menu looked promising- it just wasn't executed with any level of finesse.

                  2. I thought I got two decent brunches there. One item of note for brunch - they infuse vodka with bacon and make blood marys from it. I think those are amazing.

Otherwise, most of the food is pretty creative.
