Desperate for good southern food...please help.
I have been living in Baltimore in the cockeysville area for almost five years now, I am originally from North Carolina. I miss the food from back home horribly. I am looking for a good place that serves "home style" southern food...any suggestions?

Miss Shirley's cafe has two locations. One by the harbor on Pratt st. and one in Roland Park on Coldpring lane. It serves breakfast and lunch. I had a fried oyster poboy last week that was delicious. The menu is huge and everything we had at our table was great. The menu includes, fried green tomatoes, scrapple, eggs, shrimp, grits, greens. Its southern comfort food using fresh ingredients. Some of the menu items have been featured on the food network, I believe. If you go to the Roland Park location on the weekend, be prepared to wait.

I don't know how authentically Southern it is, but I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and hash from Langermann's in Canton.

If you are ever up in the Westminster area, Baughers while not necessarily a gourmet delight has country style food, green beans southern style and etc. I haven't been very recently, I went to college there. but it was good.
People say good things about Miss Shirley's brunch, which looks like it has some good Southern things. If you could head to DC let me know I can give you some recs there.

Best pulled pork I've had outside NC, and the best brisket outside of Texas.
Sides are all good, and done in house. Generous servings and fair prices. It's a little out of the way, but worth the trip.
