good reasonable maine lobster

Every few blocks in NYC, one can get a good maine lobster but all I have found here is 'The Red Lobster" and The Palm. Anyone have a good place within a fifteen minute drive from Sherman Oaks?

Ocean Ave. Seafood in Santa Monica has a live Maine 2 pound dinner for $41.95.

What about a long drive to Neptune's Net?

Not in your neighborhood, but Chinatown at Zen Mei Bistro. $9.99 for their one pound house special lobster(onions, garlic & chilis) or you can get it steamed with melted butter on the side.

While it's going to be more than 15 minutes to Enterprise Fish in Santa Monica I keep seeing that they do a Monday or Tuesday (or maybe it's both nights) lobster special. You get a 1 3/4 lb to 2 lb Maine lobster with two sides for $29.95. I see this ad almost every week in the LA Times.

Is that place any good? I've always wondered about them, and never hear anything, though they've been there for years.

It's alright, but won't knock your socks off. Probably a few steps above Red Lobster.
I've been to the one in Santa Barbara more times than the one in Santa Monica.

So you would consider it below say, McCormick & Schmick's? Good to know, thanks.

It is way below McCormick and Schmick's and it's expensive for what you get. They are a high price version of Seafood Broiler (if anyone remember that long gone chain).

My last trips to M&S were worse than any experiences at Enterprise.
I'd say they're in the same class. Just below say King's Fish House.

Agreed. M & S, at least the one in Burbank, is a mess. And the low health department ratings alone will keep me out of that place forever.

Also $34 as part of the three course menu for DineLA Restaurant Week. I have been for the weekly special a couple of times and have found it decent but not great--and I think both times the lobster seemed a lot closer to, if not below, 1 3/4 than 2 lbs. Of course, I usually get one of the behemoths at the Palm so my basis for size comparisons may be skewed.

Thanks, Ill give it a try one of these days. santa monica is a little far to go but I'll keep it in mind, Last summer The Palm ran a special for 2, it included a fair ceasar salad and something else. I took a friend for her birthday and I paid about 125.00 for a pretty large lobster split in two and we ordered the half and half, onions and potatoes as well. It was great but 29.95 is something i can do once a month instead of waiting on a summer special at The Palm. :)

IMHO, Red Lobster and good lobster don't go together.

How about a great, expensive Maine lobster 20 minutes away? Mastro's in Beverly Hills.

I guess Mastro's and The Palm are it i LA other than Chinese restaurants with seafood tanks. Just want a good 1 1/2 pounder, the kind that nearly every NYC block has on their menu for about 14.94- 16.95. Considering how far it has to come I 'd pay 30.00 plus. Just don't want te pay 85.00 for lobster.

If you're paying $16.95 in New York, it's probably not Maine Lobster. Must be Canadian.

Le Petit Restaurant (in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd) has a Maine lobster special Mon & Tues nights for $24.95. Here's the link: http://www.lepetitrestaurant.net/lobs.... I haven't tried it yet, but it's a great price & I've enjoyed other meals here (excellent onion soup, moules frites, etc).

Thanks, I otherwise like the restaurant but the lobsters my friend and I had were very small and not satisfying. We ended up ordering another entree as well before we left. ..Thanks for responding. I would say- pass on it as their special.

Well, it is called "Le Petit" after all.

Although I much prefer the preparation at the Palm for basic Maine lobsters, The Lobster does in fact serve Maine lobster. If a lobster roll will suffice, BP Oysterette, Hungry Cat and the Lobsta Truck are fine choices. Also, if you are open to an Asian-style preparation, the Shanghai Lobster at Chinois is amazing. Indeed, as you note below, reasonably priced lobsters can be found at many Chinese restaurants prepared in a number of exotic ways.
