One Special Night in Boston
I am traveling with my companion to Boston in early Feb. We are staying in the Copley area. We seek a romantic amazing restaurant, walk from Copley, any cuisine. I don't eat meat. Your suggestions are most welcome. This is our first getaway as a couple so something magical is desired..places I love so you get my style:
Aquataine, Trattoria Toscana, Mamma Maria, Antico Forno, Neptune, Eastern Standard

Please what is appropriate attire for the gentleman? May he wear nice jeans? I am choosing Erbaluce for dinner and Mistral for breakfast...

re: phelana
I appreciated all the recs for our special dinner. Went Sat. night at 8 PM. LOVED the location. The hostesses were amazing. Inside we were given a deuce in a corner table facing the outside exterior. The view of the gaslight and my date were the only romantic aspect of this spot. The noise level was high. Truly I found nothing romantic about this spot so wonder why folks recommended Erbaluce. I wrote ahead speaking to about 8 wines. I was told someone would guide us through the wine. Our waiter assisted in a casual way. We chose a Chianti that I did not love. Our waiter, a tall bald man was very nice. I don't eat meat so we ordered the razor clam app and my date ordered the wild boar gnocci and I ordered a fish dish the name totally escaping me (began with the letter M). We loved the lima bean dip. The bread was chewy and went well with the dip. The razor clams were amazing..what a great app. Then dinner came. My fish had the skin facing up. Underneath revealed a light mellow fish with not a lot of flavour. There were massive lime beans ( I did not eat) and amazing swiss chard. It was fine..nothing amazing. My date said his gnocci was ok..again nothing great. We felt so underwhelmed and decided not to pursue dessert. The lovely hostess brought a small plate of homemade chocolate. One had a very odd taste (covered in sesame seeds) and the truffles, wafer thin, were nice. Was bummed the wine person never came to address my email and after the hostess addressed my desire for support in that regard. Was bummed with the noise level and was bummed with the no romance factor. My date and I had a lovely time despite our disappointment.

Ann,
Bistro du Midi should fulfill the romantic element for you, and I'm sure they can accommodate you for your no meat preference. It certainly would be my first pick for an intown romantic spot with very good food.
Enjoy,

re: CocoDan
I must disagree about Bistro du Midi. My husband and I went there for dinner on a Saturday and while the room is pretty and the food is good, the service is uneven to be polite and it was SO LOUD in there we ended up eating most of our meal in silence rather than shout at each other across the table.

It's been 2 hours and no one has responded to you because your post is less Chowy and more sexy. To fulfill both, go to Mistral a few blocks from Copley. You can walk there from where you are in heels and have delicious new French with or without meat. You do pay the price for atmosphere and vibe but if you order carefully, even a farmhouse girl (or boy) with city tastes can find herself happy, sated, buzzed in a warm but exciting environment and walk out of the joint wanting more (in a good way).
