New Whole Foods in Manhattan?

maxinem Jan 18, 2011 01:22 PM

Rumor has it that there will be a new Whole Foods on 57th Street. Anyone know where it will be or when it will open? There is NOTHING decent in terms of food shopping in midtown east except Grand Central Market.

Yes, 57th/2nd...250 E. 57th St. They broke ground in may of 2010--dont think they will open until 2012 or 2013 though. Supposed to be part of a huge retail/residential development.

It's where the Public School was - the High School of Art & Design is at the corner end of the block with it's entrance on 2nd Ave., S. side of 57th. It got off to what seemed like a slow start, but the steel is now up to about the 4th fl.

I, too, am stranded in this food desert. Until that happy day when WF opens, remember that both Amish Market and the Associated on Second Avenue have their fans. As for myself, look for me on the train from Union Square, schlepping bags from the market and WF.
