Steak Frites

Anyone know where one can find real honest-to-goodness steak frites here in the DFW area? I mean the type of frites where they are skinny and double fried, crispy on the outside, soft warm goodness on the inside? Maybe with a NY strip steak and some garlic aioli on the side? I haven't found anything good since leaving the NYC area almost 3 years ago (and Pastis was my fave place there).

Thanks in advance!

  1. I love the steak frites at Neighborhood Services Tavern. "Voodoo sauce" instead of garlic aioli, and flatiron instead of strip - but the meat flavor is intense and delicious. They make fantastic french fries too. They're not super skinny, but have great potato flavor and just crisp enough. And the price is pretty reasonable for a steak of that quality.

I give a strong second to any of the Neighborhood Services restaurants.

    2. The Old Monk. Skinny and tasty. They don 't serve steak, but their frites come with their mussels, or you can order them as a side with something else.

Moules frites should at least get honourable mention!

      2. Mignon in Plano served a very tasty steak frites the last time I was there, although to confess, it was some 3-4 years ago.

I second the recipe request for NS meatballs with voodoo sauce.

Nick Badovinus and Jeff Bekavac have always been very forthcoming with information like that. I'm pretty sure they'd share if you asked either of them (although I don't know if they'd want it posted online). It's also possible that your server would know.

The voodoo sauce is wonderful. I was told that is the one recipe they will not share.

            3. Sorry Stevie, your not in Kansas anymore but, Neighborhood Services and, Houston's are both good for what you want.
