Looking for Restaurant Recommendation for Family Dinner in Calgary
Hello Chowhounders,
Since I trust the advice and palates of those on here, here goes nothing. I'm looking for a restaurant to take my parents out for dinner in Calgary. Ideally, somewhere quiet enough to have a conversation, not too formal (read: I don't want them to have to dress up), but with delicious food. Downtown, 17th ave, or any of the surrounding areas are fine and price is not an issue. They are not too big on ethnic foods, and I am a pescatarian. Most of the restaurants I can think of are either too fancy, too loud or just don't have good food.
Hopefully you guys can help!

Thanks all! I'm leaning towards Big Fish - never been (it just always seems that much out of downtown), but it definitely seems to be well liked.
Divino is one of my personal fav's as well - but I've actually taken them there several times already so I thought this might be a good ocassion for something new!

It may fall on the "loud" side for your liking, as it's usually pretty busy and happening, but I always recommend Divino. For my wife and I, one of our favorite places to do out. Great food paired with a busy atmosphere and a good selection of both wine and some unique beers.
You being a fish person, how about Murrietta's? I don't consider it as good as a Divino or anything, but it's a nice building, nice atmosphere, good fish selection. Might be a nice place to take somebody out for dinner.

Second vote for Big Fish, had a lovely meal there when my folks were visiting. Good food, great ambiance (not too dark, not to loud, great - low-key - service). I've also taken the folks to to Open Range; my dad LOVED the game selections, and I seem to recall that they have a good selection of fish as well.
Went to Redwater Rustic Grille with a group of extended family this Christmas season and everyone really seemed to enjoy it. Decor is trendy without seeming too much like a night-club, vibe is mature but certainly not to formal, and the menu has lots of choices for different palates (the group included a celiac, a diabetic, a vegetarian, an almost-literal carnivore, a couple of chowhounders, and a couple pretty conservative senior eaters). The food isn't necessarily visionary, but everything managed to steal a bite of tasted great (steak, lamb-shank, risotto, a couple pastas, a couple salads, three deserts).
