Looking for a good, fun place for a birthday dinner with a group
A group of my buddies and myself have gone out for my birthday the last 4 straight years. We've exclusively done Carmine's.
There's obviously a ton of great restaurants in NYC, so I'm open to switching it up this year. The key things are:
Good food
Reasonable prices
Fun atmosphere
Good for groups
I'm open to cuisine type, and everything else.
Looking for some good recs!
Thanks

The only requirement's that I have are to be bellow 100th Street. That takes STK out.
I'm trying to keep this meal on the less formal side. That would take STK out.
Again, I have a lively group of friends, so I'm trying to go to a noisier place, with a fun atmosphere. I defintiely don't want to be somewhere that you can hear a pin drop.
I'd like to keep this to $50-60 a person including drink

I love Crispo and if you have ten ppl, you can get the private nook area-
you can also do BLT Prime, which has awesome food and can easily sit a large group-
a bit on the cheaper side is Supper or Frank which will take a reservation for a large group, and Dinasour bbq-
if you give a neighborhood, it might be easier to give you ideas-----

re: jbone
The Collective and STK in Meatpacking district are GREAT. You can have a private party in the middle of the party, semiprivate room or private room. Had my birthday party at the Collective, rented out bar space and had passed appetizers.. Fun atmosphere and great music.. STK is a steakhouse with a lounge atmosphere.. they requires private rooms for parties of more then 12 but went to another friends party there and the food was AMAZING and the dj music gets pumped into the room.. HAve FUN!

If you want to change it up, but keep the whole family-style servings thing a la Carmine's, you could go for one of the better Chinatown joints - Oriental Garden, South China Garden, Ping's, Amazing 66 - the first two have better food, IMHO. I also like Fuleen but they're not terribly festive, unless there happen to be a couple other big parties the same night you're there. You can either do a bunch of family-style dishes, or pre-order one of their banquet menus with fancier stuff if you've got a large enough group (minimum 10 people, I'd say.)
