The Pecan, and Pine Street Market--thanks for the tips!!

I had a night and a day in Atlanta on my way home to Seattle, after spending the holidays with my family in Alabama. I came to this board for some suggestions for a place to eat and a place to find something to take home, and you didn't let me down!

On the suggested of few folks here, I had lunch before my flight at The Pecan in College Park. I had the blackened shrimp with Cajun cream sauce over pepper jack grits and Oh. My. GOD. I all but licked the plate! Those grits would make a believer out of anybody. If I didn't live 2,200 miles away, I would be there ALL the time.

Then, I wanted to bring home something good and southern for my husband, who couldn't come with me this trip. I saw a few recommendations on this board for Pine Street Market in Avondale Estates, and I found an article that said they were selling cider brined, peachtree-smoked hams for the holidays. I called and they still had one in the freezer, so I went and got it and stuffed it in my suitcase. I cooked it for dinner a the weekend after I got home, and served it with biscuits and my best attempt at re-creating those pepper jack grits. The ham was excellent--and the grits weren't bad for a Yankee's first effort!

Thanks for the help in finding some of your local treasures!

Glad you enjoyed Pine Street. It is a favorite of mine (I live in Avondale Estates) and is both fortunately and unfortunately becoming very well known. Next time you are there get the bacon and some hot dogs, they are very good as well.
