BBQ smoked Cod

Went to Art's deli the other day and ordered the BBQ smoked cod but that's not what I got. It was just baked smoked cod. They explained there supplier no longer carried BBQ cod. Is this just particular to Art's or have other places had the same problem. Bottom line, where can I get my BBQ smoked cod?

have you tried Danny's Deli in Ventura? it's still listed on their online menu, though that may just need to be updated...but it's at least worth a phone call.

Yes, it disappeared, and at the time (5 years ago?) was told it had become too expensive, but that doesn't seem like a reasonable explanation. If Greengrass can chg $40/lb. for lox, could BBQ cod possibly cost more? I miss it, too.

We got the same response from Mort's Deli in Reseda; No longer available.

Ditto from Fromin's in Santa Monica - my all time favorite dish because the BBQ smoked cod was flaked all over the bagel - delicious. But no more - explanation was that the processors were not allowed to smoke cod and other fish any more, so I guess its off to Brent's.

I used to be able to get it in the deli case at the supermarket, and at the Sunday brunch buffet at El Caballero, but as I understand it was taken off the market a few years ago. What a shame, this was really good smoked fish.

Brent's Deli in Northridge and Westlake Village makes their own BBQ smoked cod in-house (they told me that they had to make it because it became unavailable in Southern California) and it's very very good, very moist and flavorful.

Hmm, wondering if Brent's will deliver to Chino.
