Girl and the Goat w/o a rez - eating at the bar on a Saturday?

I was unable to get a reservation at Girl and the Goat for this Saturday (January 22), so am considering trying to snag a couple of seats at the bar for dinner. According to their website, they open at 4:30pm. I don't believe they take reservations for bar dining.

Do I need to get there at the stroke of opening to get seats? Or will I be equally ok showing up at 5:00pm or 5:30pm or even 6:00pm?

What's the approximate number of seats at the bar? Any other suggestions or observations from those who've eaten at the G&TG bar?

  1. So, we had a really nice time at G&TG on Saturday. We arrived around 4:50 and within another 10 minutes or so, every seat at the bar was taken. There's about 15 or so seats, I'd estimate. The place was really buzzing by 5:30 as the tables (those who had reservations!) completely filled up too. We snacked on the "miso hungry" bread, shisito peppers, the chickpea fritters, and the octopus, and had a nice bottle of Sancerre. The portions were larger than I expected (so the two of us didn't make it past those three dishes), and several of the other vegetable and fish dishes had an element of meat or cheese to them, which put them out of our preferences. All in all, a great place with much to recommend it.

Great info - thanks for posting!

For those looking for reservations, they start accepting them exactly three months in advance, and the weekends book up quickly! For example, right now it's 11:10 a.m. on January 23, and Opentable shows availability for a party of two for Saturday April 23 at 5:45 and 9:00, but nothing in between.
