The King and I in Fairfield, CT

We were down on the Post Rd in Fairfield friday night and decided to stop in one of our favorite Thai restaunts, The King and I. Normally we go to the location on the Bridgeport/Stratford line.It was 6:30pm and there were all of 3 or 4 tables taken, we were taken aback a bit. We ordered the chicken, lemongrass and coconut milk soup and the fried calamari salad. The soup was very good but had big pieces of lemon grass that were very hard to chew...we just picked them all out. Shouldn't the lemongrass have been taken out of the soup before being served? It's just too fibrous to eat. The fried calamari salad was so small, we had gotten this in the past and remember it being at least twice the size. I ordered GOONG IN MANGO CURRY but changed the shrimp to chicken, this portion also came out much smaller than normal. This is my favorite dish and I get it often but this time it occured to me that the chicken should be a few dollars less than the shrimp but when I saw the bill it wasn't. I didn't saw anything. The dish was very good as usual. My partner had a whole fried snapper that he thought had good flavor but was dry.The restaurant never got really busy.

  1. 3 or 4 tables filled isn't too bad for them - every time I go it's even fewer. Have been going much less often because their portions have become minescule, Instead, we've been picking up from Taste of Thai in Milford.

The mango curry dish I get is my favorite, do that have that in Milford?

Yup, they have something similar with shrimp so I am there! Thanks

let me know how you like it! My usuals are the panang chicken and the green curry chicken - both are superior in both flavor and portion size to their counterparts at King and I.

I brought my family to the King and I a few nights ago. The drunken noodle and pad se euee (sorry for the misspelling) were very good, IMHO not quite up to Kits Kitchen in N. Stamford but very close. We had the Thai fried rice and it was fair and also the shrimp glass noodle hot pot which was tasty.

We were overall very pleased with the tasty food but the hot pot and Thai fried rice portions were too small as a main dinner portion which Ima Foodie comments on above. This in of itself won't keep me from coming back but I know that appetizers are a must at this place if you or others are are hungry. Additionally, the beer selection is awful, a Thai beer, Bud and Bud Light unless the server simply didn't know.
