Duchess in Shelton, CT burgers awful

I live near several Duchess restaurants and never think to go to them for a burger. We were over in Shelton and decided to stop in for a burger and we were both very disappointed. I ordered the 1/3lb angus burger and it did not even taste like beef at all. Their french fries were also very bland. My partner order a double cheese burger and in between all the lettuce and tomato you could hardly see there were 2 burgers in there, they were paper thin. In the past when I gone to Duchess(which is not very often at all) I usually order an eggplant or chicken parm sandwich and they have been good but I was shocked that their burgers were just plain awful!

I think you need to remember that Duchess is a fast food place along the lines of McDonalds and Burger King. I would not expect a good burger there but would expect to be better than the national chains. Usually when we go to Duchess we get hot dogs which they are better know for than burgers. They also have decent onion rings again for a fast food place. Jay

McDonalds, Burger King, & Wendy's burger are actually better than Duchess.

Amen on the Dogs - they are quite decent if you leave off the bacon & other stuff other than mustard & sauerkraut.

The eggplant parm is decent with a little extra sauce & the turkey burger is edible.

Monday nights we drive MIL to Shelton for a card game and she requests dinner first at Duchess.
The chicken is good, the burgers vile. Thin, dried out, tasteless discs on an oversized bun.

That said, Duchess locations are individually owned and the quality and cooking varies. Shelton has better soups than Monroe.

I usually get a very decent chili cheese burger at the Ansonia Duchess - which is closed right now for renovations - but with the chili and cheese on top, any meh characteristics of the burger get covered up. That being said, Duchess cooks to order so you can request no or less lettuce, etc. - though if you're not thrilled with the burger underneath, guess that may not be the answer. I'm more a fan of their onion rings than fries, but I have a hard time finding consistently good fries anywhere.

When the Ansonia one re-opens, maybe I'll visit each and see if I notice a difference.
