My friend owes me gelato, and has been asking me where we'll go for me to collect.

Where would you go? I've only been to the one at the Santa Monica Promenade.

Al Gelato is a strong second.
But I would insist on Il Cono on the N. side of little Santa Monica Blvd. btn. Rodeo and Beverly.
Their strawberry and chocolate make the perfect combination, but they have other divine options: lychee, pumpkin, rosewater, chocolate covered banana, creme caramel, dulche de leche, passion fruit, blood orange, just a bigger and better selection than Al Gelato and in my opinion noticeably yummier.

I also found a new place, don't remember the name, next to the Coldstone on Pico across from Westside Pavilion. You must try it!

My vote is for Gelato Paradiso. One opened up across the street from Hollywood and Highland a few months ago. It's just a really pleasant place and the gelato is out of this world good. Better than any ice cream I've ever had, hands down.

I've had a bad experience at Melt in the Galleria, so personally I'd stay clear.

Gelato Paradiso
6922 Hollywood Boulevard, Suite 107
(323) 464-9256
(With three other locations--Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, and Laguna Beach.)

I'll jump on the Al Gelato train, but also post a vote for the place on Melrose whose name I can NEVER remember. It is West of LaBrea and east of Fairfax--about a block west of Angeli Cafe. There is a sign that says GELATO HERE, with an arrow pointing down.

And trust me, it will be a good day indeed if they have the fig-almond gelato. Oh, yum.
