Camille's on Wheels

manomin Jan 15, 2011 11:23 AM

Adding to the growing truck brigade of wonderful food is Camille's on Wheels. I had a terrific lunch there yesterday. Her location is on Kapaa Quarry Rd. in the All Pool & Spa parking lot which also adjoins Tropical Clay, King & Zelko and Bali Boo amongst other industrial bays there. She was serving up kalbi tacos, shoyu tacos, roast pork tacos, salmon tacos with some incredible sides. I chose both the shoyu and a kalbii both were juicy with the right amount of "crisp" on the outside.
Double soft taco shells encase the meat with cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes a great sauce and cilantro.
A triumph for the taste buds was her side of quinoa/cashew/raisins was just the best way to complement the tacos as well as the side of black beans and rice. She also had blue velvet cupcakes which made me think of Bobby Vinton and his hit song........She is also found at the front of Hardware Hawaii in Kailua which is where she is today. I am going again next week!

Any other foodie trucks you recommend for the Kailua area? Is the Indian truck still showing up in the parking lot in front of Don Quijote and, if so, is it any good?

Sometimes Kevin's Two Boots is in the parking lot on Uluniu behind Walgreen's but it doesn't seem like a regularly scheduled appearance. Brent's Deli shares the spot with Camille by Hardware Hawaii (she'll be there tomorrow & Weds. Today she is baking pies.) Don't know about the Indian truck since they opened shop by Times Supermarket.

So the Indian spot by Times is the same as the truck....and interesting that "Brent's" now has a truck. Where else do they park? Brent's was our favorite breakfast spot.

No way! Brent's has a truck! I imagine it's only sandwiches though. Still, that's great news. Where do I get information?

Camille is on Ward by Pacific Home today (thurs. 2/10) why don't you swing by, savor her amazing food and ask her about Brent? He's her friend hence, the sharing of the spot by HH in Kailua.

                I'm not usually in Kailua.

Btw, I tried googling Brent's, but I didn't come up with anything.

Brent's has been gone for a few months, the owners retired. Great loss for those of us that like a great Pastrami Sandwich. I guess we'll just have to fly in Langer's from LA.

Hmmmmmm, just saw Camille's has chimichurri tacos tomorrow in Kailua by Hardware Hawaii, I might have to go by!

So I went to Camile's yesterday before work and tried her Mexican bread pudding with dulce del leche (amazing.) I also had the chimichurri ahi taco which was flavorful beyond description. I sat on a paint bucket and enjoyed talking to people who would walk by or stop to order. Today she is having meatloaf which I know will be amazing I may have to go again!
I got there about 12:30 and she was going to leave about 2:00.

I went to the truck at the foodtruck event two weeks ago, but I didn't care for the filling she had, so we just got her pecan pie and blue velvet cupcake. The cupcake was solid, but nothing to rave about, imo. The pecan pie was OK (and I'm a fan of pecan pie).

I went last week and had chimichurri beef taco as well as a pork with poblano bacon cream sauce and both were delicious. Also there was a crew filming a HITEL commercial. Have you read the new Honolulu Magazine article which features many of the food trucks? It is a very good article. John really liked Camille's I got him to leave home for it!

"chimichurri beef and pork with poblano bacon cream!?" I can assure you she wasn't serving anything that sounded that good or else I would have definitely tried it! (I think it was something like shoyu pork and something else that wasn't so interesting.)

Dear Jazz, Sometimes I am not so descriptive on the menu board but knowing you and possibly others respond to that I have a heads up, thank you! I do like my food to do the talking... My shoyu chicken is cooked for over 3 hours and my Thai pork at least as long with fresh lemongrass, kaffir lime, ginger and garlic. Please come by and introduce yourself! Mahalo!

That is awesome! A reply from meely herself! I can attest to the slow cooking rendering the best of results in the pork and chicken. Now let's see those ahi with chimmicurri tacos again too!! Wish I had a cupcake to eat with my coffee right now!
