special meals in philadelphia
I recently discovered that Zinc does pressed duck a few days a week! I know other restaurants have (or have had) periodic special items available (fried chicken @ mémé, korean fried chicken @ meritage).
I was curious to see what else is out there that people might know about by way of special nights to visit restaurants, or perhaps dishes that always need to be ordered a day or two in advance ... things like that.
Sunday nights at Modo Mio are "Sugo Sunday." It's $33pp, same price as the Turista Menu they offer other nights, but there is no menu. They bring out antipasto, then pasta, and a bunch of delicious "sugo," tomato sauce that has been simmering with all kinds of meats for hours. It's less refined than the regular menu, but really good.
there are a number of sunday supper prix fixe's in the city. it might be nice as its own thread. i'm never in town on sundays but wish i could go to a few of them. i thought fish used to have one but can't find it on their website and james on 8th has 3 courses for $40.
of course there's the han dynasty feast on every other monday/monthly.
The whole pig at Amada needs to be ordered in advance and secured with a credit card.
At Vetri, I understand that you could once order a lobster/spaghetti dish that used to be on the menu when the restaurant first opened if you requested it a day or two in advance. Not sure if this is still available.
