Where can we go before an 8:00 recital at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale? We're open to all Chowhound suggestions for any kind of food, but the closer to the Center, the better.

The newly opened Bourbon on 2nd, 201 SW 2nd Street, is the latest venture by former Creolina's chef/owner Mark Sulzinski. The food is Cajun/Creole, and probably the best of it's type in South Florida. It's about three blocks from the BCPA.

Another alternative is the Bluejays Cafe, 330 Himmarshee Street (SW 2nd Street). The young owners (she's out front, he's in back) are doing some very tasty Southwest-style recipes. If you try Bluejays Cafe, don't miss the corn on the cob, smoked on the grill, and drizzled with chipotle-lime sauce. About a block and a half from the BCPA.

I agree, Rok Burger is really very good, but I don't know how they are about helping you get to the theater on time. We just had a pre-show dinner at Himmarshee Grill which is always very good and they are extremely proficient at getting you to the show on time. They wait staff will direct you to menu items and will be best to do that. The food is always delicious.

Rok Bgr has very very slow service. Get there really early or you may miss the show. Was there last night; placed order at 5:45. At 6:30 when we finally got the food (no appetizers, no special orders, straight off menu) we had to ask for the check (our show was at 7). My husband's empty beer bottle sat in front of him for about 30 min.; our waiter never came by to ckeck if he wanted something more to drink.

The two people at the table next to us actually got up and walked out before their food ever showed. They left some money for the first beers they had but guess they gave up waiting. The sad thing was that when the runner brought the food (10 min after they left), he called the waiter over and the waiter hadn't even noticed they were gone and they were both standing there wondering why the people would've walked out.

That's really a shame. We were there Friday night and although they were mobbed, our food came out really quickly and the service was generally really good. By the way, the lobster corn dogs are really great!

Rok Brgr which is about 2 blocks away on 2nd Street has the best food around that area, its been open about 2 weeks now -- they have lots of burgers and you can also customize your own -- some other comfort food style items as entrees also. You can either sit inside or out, the inside is a bit nicer . But if you want something nicer you could try YOLO which is on Las Olas, its a bit more upscale and its a lively atmosphere, good food.
