Great Burger in Pittsfield at Port Smitt's!!

I don't eat a lot of red meat, but every once in a while I get a craving for a good burger! We use to have a townhouse in Queensbury, NY and the burger at West Mountain Ski area always satisfied that craving. Trying to avoid an hour and a half ride to get a burger, I went in search of a good burger here in town. This past Saturday, I finally found it! Port Smitt's Restaurant on Peck's Road in Pittsfied has a casual sports pub atmosphere and serve up a terrific char-broiled burger! The spicy sausage and bay scallop soup was also delicious. My husband's Grilled Chicken salad had plenty of chicken and was very large, but would have been better with more mixed greens and less iceburg. The drinks were reasonably priced and they had the playoff games on the 3-4 TVs in the bar area. We'll be supporting this new establishment in the future and hope other's will give it a try!

  1. I've eaten at PortSmitts a couple of times, as I live very close by, and both times was pretty underwhelmed by the quality of the food. The onion soup I sent back, something I rarely do, as it was a pure salt-lick, and therefore inedible. I had a burger on my second visit which was very overcooked and tasted old. I've had much better burgers at the Lantern on North Street. Overall I find the menu and food at PortSmitts to be very pedestrian, and most of what I've tasted has clearly been pre-fab food. I'd love to support this restaurant, but I think they need to step it up several notches.

I haven't tried Port Smitts (the menu didn't impress) and try to only eat grass raised beef, but if I were making an exception to that rule in the Pitt, it would be the Lantern too!
