Birthday on a Monday, stuck for dinner ideas

Hey there,

I am stymied. I am having a birthday on a Monday this year, and most of my favorite restaurants are closed (think Commonwealth and Frances). Anyone have any ideas for a great place that'd be open on Monday? Would prefer somewhere small, intimate, with great food. Oh, and reservations a big plus.

    Five of us just had dinner tonight at Zare at Fly Trap and loved it. Nice cocktail program, robust and unique flavors, many vege options, warm friendly service. On Mondays theres a guitarist in the bar. We started at 5pm with drinks and had a 5:45p dinner res. Lots of metered street parking at that time.

      Our celebration dinner on Monday evening was an evening of many delights; Meatball Monday for Kufteh Tabrizi - a very special herb and rice meatball with a short rib center - pure happiness - and well matched with a St. Bernardus beer; Lamb shank with a glass of Argiolas; starting with Cardamom My Dearest (ah - gin and cardamom)... smoked trout and cucumber linguine/trout roe/dill crème fraîche , wild mushroom cake with asparagus ~ lemon confit... a perfect finish with faloodeh and the goat cheesecake. sigh, this is a tapestry of rich and complex flavors.

        The reason to go on Mondays is for the meatball (Tabrizi kufte). Chef Hoss delights in finding new things to stuff into the core and changing it up each week. I couldn't believe that anything could be better than the velvety and richly beefy braised cheeks in the tabrizi meatball the night I was there.

        But then chef said that his favorites were the foie gras stuffing or the duck confit . . . doesn't that make your eyes roll back? The forcemeat was quite light and fluffy and delicately seasoned. We tasted and retasted the sauce trying to put a name to the elusive flavoring which turned out to be dried lime.

        Adored the roasted marrow bones, set off by housemade bergamot condiment, along with black salt and homemade pickles.

        As good as the meated dishes were, the vegetable options were equally stellar and involved. The delicata squash filled with orzo was presented upended, mimicking the plating of the bone marrow.

        And even better, the vege standout was the mushroom cake accented with lemon confit relish.

            We did a nice Monday dinner at Bar Bambino last year. They were doing a series of regional tasting menus on Mondays only.

          If you are willing to come to the east bay, both plum and camino are open on Monday's.

              Chez Pannise has a special (downgraded) Monday menu, which may be a benefit or a downfall.

                I think the birthday in question was over months ago, but for the record, Monday's probably my favorite night to eat downstairs at CP.
