Any suggestions for a really first class breakfast (not brunch) for Sundays.
Upper price category ok as are hotel resturants.
Thanks for the help

At a high price point, the breakfasts at Nougatine are excellent.

What do you mean by "breakfast (not brunch)"? Is it that you wish to dine on the early side? Or can there literally be no lunch type dishes on the menu like burgers, salads, sandwiches, pasta?

Seconding Nougatine. A few other options for an upscale breakfast on Sundays:

        Cafe Boulud
        DB Bistro Moderne
        Locanda Verde
        Ai Fiori
        Cafe Sabarsky

I have a midafternoon flight on Sunday at EWR. Most brunches start late morning and a leisure brunch might be cutting it close, hence the request for breakfast.
So, lack of "lunch type dishes" is fine.

Thanks for clarifying, that makes a lot more sense now.

I would do Clinton St Baking Company (if you get there by 8:30am, you'll probably be one of the first seated, and beat the crowds, get the pancakes), Locanda Verde (breakfast from 8-10 on weekends, brunch afterwards, get the sheep's milk ricotta & a baked egg dish), Breslin (love their cocktails, pastries, and English fry ups, and brunch starts at 7am). Perhaps Maialino -- their front room opens at 8am, not sure which menu they would serve, so I'd call and ask, but they do a good breakfast/brunch. Out of those, Locanda Verde and Maialino take reservations, whereas the Breslin and Clinton St do not. These are probably four of the best breakfast & brunch restaurants in town, regardless.

Towards the bottom of this post is a bigger list of places with early breakfast & brunch.
