January in OBX

I'll be staying in Nag's Head the last 2 weeks. If they are open, I plan on

Blue Moon Beach Grill
Mama Kwan's
Roadside Grill (Duck)
Kill Devil Grill
The Sugar Shack
Food Dude's

Any suggestions to add to the list? Last year I wasn't impressed with Lone Cedar at Whalebone Junction. Sam & Omies isn't open in January. Otherwise...all ideas are welcome!

  1. Hi! We went to Tale of the Whale - it was fantastic!

    1. Blue Moon is the newcomer in town and is fantastic. Try the Mahi BLT.
Mama's is always a great option. I believe they are closing the 17th though.
Roadside is fabulous and does a great lunch too if they are open.
KDH Grill is reopening on the 20th I think.
Sugar Shack - I could take it or leave it.
Don't miss Food Dudes. My new favorite. It's amazing and very reasonably priced but a hole in the wall.

I developed a fondness for Sugar Shack's steamed oysters and shrimp. Perfectly done.

      2. I think Blue Moon is closed this month- reopening in February. I think they are expanding.

            2. Blue Moon, Mama Kwans, & apparently Roadside Grill (no answer) are not open.

              Thoughts on Tortugas Lie?
              South Beach Grill?

Tortugas Lie is a fun, casual place. The food is good - I've been there for a late lunch several times and get their fish tacos or grilled fish sandwich.

South Beach Grill gets great reviews - have been wanting to go for a while but unfortunately hvae not made it yet - maybe on my trip this year.

Roadside is open like Thursday - Saturday

I was in Duck on Monday & saw that on their sign - thanks! I'll go back up there. Food Dudes didn't make my tastebuds sing out like I wanted. I had fish tacos that were just OK.

                2. Blue Point. We ate there twice this weekend, it was delicious.

What did you have? I'm thinking of the oyster stew for lunch.

                    1. re: SweetPea

We had dinner both nights. We split the tenderloin, which was exceptional. The other night, my husband had the catfish (red beans and rice were delicious) and I had a salad and the shrimp appetizer. It was good also. I wish we'd tried lunch there but we didn't.

I did go and I had the oyster stew. It was the richest oyster stew I've ever had. Plentiful oysters and made with half & half and heavy cream & a bit of sherry and pieces of bacon. Whew! I also had the key lime pie It was an individual tart size with a good bottom crust. Velvety texture that could have had a touch more flavor, served with raspberry sauce and whipped cream that was a nice compliment.

                  2. we have been going down there fromLong Island for 20years, in July. my husband goes in May and Oct as well to hunt and fish in Manns Harbor. i went with him this last Oct and we tried a few new places. were very happy with Millers seaside, and Blue Point. from Guy Fieri on Food Network found Ortegz by the water in Manteo, wonderful fish tacos fresh off the dock in Wanchese. always loved the flying fish, expensive but good, last time we took the kids there, we were literally fighting over the smoked salmon florentine soup. for a wonderful breakfast and more try the good life MP 4.5 on bypass, its small but also does catering. phenomenal skillet breakfast, biscuits to die for, homemade desserts to tempt you. tale of the whale is always a good bet, we happen to really like lone cedar but my husband's cousin works there so we be getting special treatment. ate at the Blak Pelican for the first time and in 10 days, was the only place we went back twice. hurricane Moe's was great but havent been since they moved from Pirate's Cove. Anyone been?
