Kosher lunch in Chicago/butchers in Cleveland

I will be driving through Chicago in a couple of months and plan to stop for lunch and a look around. I live in the Pacific NW, where kosher restaurants are few and far between. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good lunch/deli? A couple of days later we'll be flying home from Cleveland, so if there's a good butcher/deli there, I'd love to know so I can bring stuff home.

    1. Ken's Diner is a fun place. I'm not from Chicago, so I've only been there a couple of times when I was visiting, but I liked it.

      1. If you're downtown, I'd recommend MetroKlub. If you're looking for something fancy, Shallots is decent but expensive. Otherwise try one of the Israeli places like Taboun in Skokie, Manghal in Chicago, or Mizrahi grill in the far northern suburbs.

        1. The best butcher is Romanian. Great meats and salamis.

          1. All of these suggestions are excellent - If you are coming on I-94 Taboun Grill would be the most convenient - it is just east of I-94 on Dempster - Romainians is about 2-3 miles from Taboun - and it is the best butche rin Chicago - all of the deli meats and hot Dogs are excellent !

            Ta'boun Grill
8808 N. Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL 847-965-1818

            Romanian Kosher (OU)
            7200 N. Clark, Chicago, IL 60626

            and the other places suggested:

            Ken’s Diner
            3353 Dempster, Skokie, IL 60076 847-679-4030

1805 Howard Street, Evanston, IL 847-859-2681

            Shallots Bistro
            7016 Carpenter Road, Skokie, IL 60077 847-677-DINE

Metro Klub - Lunch hours only
