Restaurant for Birthday Dinner (Indian Food)

Hello!

I'm looking for some suggestions for a good Indian restaurant for a birthday dinner. Something authentic, but upscale. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Thank you all, terrific suggestions. I have chosen Atma and will let you know how it went.

I went last night with a group of 8. The food was very good but we were seated at 9:30 and ate at 10:45pm even though our res was at 8:30 pm. The kitchen was extremely slow and the waiter warned us about that! I haven't been often enough to know if this is the norm or an exception.

I went during the christmas break with a group of 10, while we were seated as soon as we arrived, in time for our reservation (7pm) and we got the food around 8 for the main courses (some people had appetizers) and we were served pappadums and the sauces about 10-15 min after seating down, with the drinks arriving at the same time.

So it might have been either a off night, or everybody arrived/ordered pretty much at the same time and the kitchen couldn’t handle the flow.

Being Indian I have attended many Indian birthday parties ...Devi seems best with food and space available...Its on Cresent...
If for outdoor catering Maison Indian Curry will be good.
Curry House on Bishop and Maharaja on Rene-Levesque strictly no-no if you want authentic

        Hi

I was wondering if Curry House is decent despite being non-authentic.

Karma in the West Island or Atma on St-Laurent.

Maybe this one, reviewed yesterday : http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7582...

Taj is probably the most "upscale" when it comes to indian restaurant but they are closed in January.

Ghandi is more upscale and their food is more consistant. I love that Mirchi's delivers in my area, and their food is good, but everytime we get something from them there are a number of very small details that they really need to work on. I have zero complaints about the execution of Ghandi's food other than its lack of inspiration and creativity, but inspiration and creativity are not something you will find at Mirchi's either.

I've heard good things about Ghandi on Saint-Paul in Old MTL and have been wanting to give them a try: http://www.restaurantgandhi.com/
