La Maquette-Terrible-Don't Go

Went to La Maquette for a birthday celebration. Service is the worst I have ever experienced. We had to flag someone down for everything-even to order initially. The food was okay, but way overpriced for what it was. When we spoke to the manager about our dissatisfaction she apologized but did not offer to do anything about it (granted we did not ask for any sort of compensation either). Way to pricey for very terrible service (actually no service at all) and very mediocre food. Don't go to La Maquette.

  1. I've been there regularly and not had a problem.
It's not in my top 10 but I've always found it reliable, and service similarly acceptable (although the 'Licious events can be a challenge - but this year their menu does look better than most).

Glad to hear a postiive review. A friend went recently and said it was good but I was kind of doubting his opinion since I had seen so many poor reviews. They have often been featured on various deal sites that makes the pricing more reasonable so I think I might pick one up next time.

My description would have been 'solid and reliable'. The food can be variable - but I can't recall a 'really bad' meal there, and enough are good so that I keep returning. And their prices are reasonable (IMO).

I went there once just before Christmas a few years ago -- duck breast was so raw it was like chewing rubber, the server disappeared after the mains arrived, it took so long to get another server's attention that I skipped coffee/dessert and asked for the bill (which took 30 minutes to arrive). Haven't been back since.

    2. Never tried this restaurant before, but they did sell a lot of vouchers on one of those deals websites. Perhaps they are too overloaded that everything has gone down hill.

No, it's always been that way. Nice patio in the summer, tho.

      2. It is always with reluctance that I make a negative post, but forewarned is forearmed and I wish I had read these comments before I went last night. Indifferent service from a man that reeked of tobacco smoke and had to chill the white wine ordered from room temperature at the table.
Every dish was seriously over salted, the calamarie were chunky tough, the salmon wraps had clearly been standing around for hours, the risotto had the right ingredients but might as well have been swimming in sea water, the haddock over done and small portion etc, etc, excluding wine, the price was over $100 per person. Lovely location though!

my experience with service was similar. the food was meh. there are too many good restaurants in the area to choose from with better both. i will not return

I've always found La Maquette 'traditional but solid' - but something seems really 'off' here. And the cost seems way out-of-line with what I've experienced.
What else did you have? - Given the dishes you described I'd have expected the cost to be closer to $50 than $100 (before tax and gratuity).
Of course, I can't argue with your impressions of the food - I tend to prefer more salt than most, but can't recall ever having had an oversalted dish there - although I rarely order fish dishes anyway.

The quality may have plummeted due to the fact they have offered so many group deal coupons recently. I believe the number may be somewhere between 5-10 offers at least.

The deals have been getting larger and larger and I believe the last one was $60 for $100 worth of food.

They're probably using the money for a quick cash infusion while serving overpriced crappy food. A recipe for disaster.

            2. The bar for that area has been set at walk over limbo height.

i'm not sure if a) that means it's high or low, and b) if high or low is better (since you reference limbo)

all i know is that if you put $100 in my fist on the corner of king and church, i definitely wouldn't end up at la maquette
