Honey Crisp Apples

These fabulous apples were available at Fairway on Broadway and Broadway Farm on 88 St. earlier in the season. Now they're gone. (The apples that Braodway Farm currently is selling under a "Honey Crisp" sign, obviously, after one bite, are not.). Does anyone know where I can find these apples in Manhattan?

  1. Did you try the greenmarket?

    1. Costco has them but in large quantity

      1. Honey Crisp are wonderful in he fall, but they are not apples that have good staying power. That is why they are not tasting the same. I'm afraid you will have to wait until next Fall and eat them in season.

Maybe so, but I have ordered these on-line from a grower through May (something I was trying to avoid), and they were just fine. Also, they seem to keep very well in the refrigerator.

        2. They're still at some stands at the Union Sq Greenmarket--Migliorelli, I believe. They're smaller than the glossy behemoths seen elsewhere.

Look also for Caradonna (sp??) on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Apples from the Greenmarket are far better, in general, than those sold in the supermarkets. However, I am not a fan of Honeycrisps--I think they are all crispness and little flavor.

          2. Fresh Direct has them, and I think I saw some in Whole Foods at Columbus Circle too

Yes, the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle had them today. Also, the UWS Greenmarket around 65th/Bway generally has a couple of apple vendors with a fantastic selection; it is there Thurs/Sat.
