Chelsea or around there.. Thursday night. no reservation needed

Hi we will be coming in by plane and I hate the pressure of a reservation that first night.. Where can we walk to and get a table.. or at least call an hour before or so.. A very nice casual meal. maybe $175-200 a couple.. nice atmosphere,interesting.. tasty. Happy to walk 15 blocks or so.. thanks!!

I would try Nuela (24th and 6th). It's big enough that you should be able to get in without advance reservation.

I've always enjoyed Red Cat. There's also Colicchio & Sons. You're likely to be able to get into both with an hour or so notice. You could also try your luck sitting at the bar at Scarpetta, but that could be iffy, depending on what time you might be able to arrive.

Scarpetta is a good call--in addition to dining at the bar, the tables in the front are for walk in patrons.

Trestle on Tenth has seating at the bar. It's a lovely place, delightful menu and wine list. 24th 10th.

            Cookshop might also work.
