Brooklyn restaurant to bring visiting parents + vegetarians + boyfriend?

nizzy Jan 6, 2011 02:08 PM

My vegetarian brother-in-law, vegetarian boyfriend, grumpy father, sorta-deaf teetotaling mother, and easygoing omnivorous sister and self are planning a big dinner out later this month in Brooklyn. Past good calls with various combinations of all those people have been at Vinegar Hill House, Roberta's, and Farm. Any ideas for places that offer interesting veggie options, decent wine list, has character but isn't formal, at a moderate volume, for 6 diners? Manhattan's fine, too. Thanks!

Buttermilk Channel in Carroll Gardens hits all those marks, and they have a great vegetarian menu. EXCEPT - last time I went, it was quite loud. Anyone know if that has changed?

I also like Ici, or Grocery in Carroll Gardens? Definitely a low key armosphere with very good food. They usually have vegetarian offerings and will also modify dishes to make them vegetarian.

The easy going sister hopes this thread doesn't disappear. I think places that are lo fi and semi casual would be good. Ici would be nice, too, in a pinch. Or at least it sufficed in the past.
