Dinner near Brigham Woman's Hospital/Dana Farber or Hampton Inn Crosstown Center

I have some family members heading to Boston to the cancer center and they will be stuck in the Hampton Inn Crosstown for a month. I wanted to get them some gift cards for dinner, so they can get out of the hotel and hospital. I need some ideas for casual restaurants near either place. They prefer nice bar and grills or casual italian/american. Thanks for your help.

Here are a few ideas, I'm sure you will get more. Each of these is a short cab ride or the hotel's shuttle may be able to drop them. (I recently stayed at a hotel with a shuttle service and a $5 bill and a smile got us dropped nearly anywhere fairly near the route.) Trattoria Toscana, near Fenway Park, a fairly casual Italian restaurant, is a favorite of many on this board. Eastern Standard Kitchen (often abbreviated here as ESK) is sort of upscale bistro. Petit Robert Bistro ditto. Both are in Kenmore Square. Taberna de Haro is very good tapas. Elephant Walk has an interesting French-Cambodian menu with option for non-adventurous eaters. Both are a few blocks from Kenmore. Squealing Pig and Mission Bar & Grill (both pub-type places and both walking distance from Brigham & Women's) have their supporters here. On this thread I got some helpful advice about lunch spots in the area: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7442...

Good luck and hope all goes exceedingly well during treatment!!

Brookline is right down the road so here are a few:

      Matt Murphy's - Irish Pub
      Pomodoro - Italian
      Washington Square Tavern

I have not been here but have heard good things about The Regal Beagle in Coolidge Corner, Brookline.

I hope all goes well with your family. If it is any consolation, they will be receving top-notch care.

Crosstown is a few blocks from South End, there's a number of threads on the great restaurants there. However, if they go out at night, I'd recommend a cab since walking between the hotel at the South End is pretty sketchy.

The Hampton Inn is on Mass Avenue near the Boston Medical Center. Brigham and Women's is closer to Brookline Village while the Inn is closer to the South End. It isn't the most attractive neighborhood at night (not unsafe, just not a pleasant walk and definitely gritty). At the hospital end, the Village is home to Pomodoro (Italian, takes cash only), Orinoco (venezuelan and very good), Family Restaurant (very nice Turkish), Szechuan Garden. A little further is La Morra (very good Italian). In the other direction from the hospital, coming toward Boston, is Trattoria Toscana (small and very good Italian). Closest to the Hampton Inn is Estragon, very good Spanish Tapas. Also very nice, in Brookline and a short cab ride from the hospital, Taberno de Haro (very good Spanish), and Elephant Walk (French/Cambodian). The Hampton Inn is a short cab ride from lots of good South End restaurants. Check the board for a list but consider Hamersley Bistro and B & G Oysters. I applaud your thoughtfulness.

The hotel is a short ride to Gaslight Brasserie which has parking (!) and should suit them well.
