Mission Tapas in Pittsfield...new menu
We had dinner last night at Mission Tapas and Bar in Pittsfield. It's been a regular place for me for years, but hadn't gotten there in the last month. They've come out with a new menu--lots of the old favorites, and some great additions. Friend and I dine on tapas, so I can't speak to the main course plates.
Had one of the specials--cockles in a heady broth with chorizo, onion and (maybe) chipotle. Just delicious, though the chorizo was in rather non-traditional chunks rather than removed from the casing and more finely ground. Cockles (a first for us) were fresh, briny...yum
The empanadas and grilled Caesar salad are old faves, and were spot on. But the crowning jewel was a slice of roasted pork belly, with almost all the fat rendered out except for the crispy part that must have been passed under the salamander, served on top of the most delicious whipped parsnips. The combo was perfect.
Finished off with hot out of the grease churros, and we'd hit about every taste ones mouth could ask for. Churros are served with whipped cream and chocolate ganache for dipping; unfortunately the ganache was a little too overheated.
All this, along with 1.5 glasses of wine each (yup; they'll do half pours) came to just under $70. And the service was superb--great waiter!
