seeking rec for sat night dinner - group of 6

Hi All,

I'm looking for your expertise in suggesting a restaurant either near penn station, or near 3rd and 11th (but not the smith), that would be good for a group of 6 this saturday night at around 6:30 pm. Ideally, cost would be around $30 pp excluding drinks. Fun atmosphere a plus, but doesn't have to be the trendiest spot. Open to all cuisines, with slight preferences for sushi, mexican, and seafood. As of now, I thought Koreatown sounded like a good start, but let me know if anything else comes to mind.

      Near 3rd and 11th:

For Japanese, I'd do either Kanoyama (though there might be a short wait) or Village Yokocho (which is an izakaya but is really fun because it's Japanese drinking food anyway). Friend also like Hasaki (seems less loud and fun to me as well) but I think the other two options I listed are better. But you could do well at all three.

Hecho en Dumbo serves interior Mexican. The food is good and a short walk away but they're usually packed. They have pretty good drinks as well and the atmosphere is definitely fun. Mayahuel might also work but it's more of a cocktail bar that happens to have good Mexican food. The atmosphere is much more chill than Hecho. The drinks are fantastic, though. Everything else I can think of is either take out only (Dos Toro) or further east....

For seafood, Mermaid Inn might work. Try to see if you can swing a reservation.

Paprika on St Mark's is delicious and was good for 6 the last time I was there. Do not miss the polenta. Cozy ambience and also a very good value. You can reserve on opentable too.

I'd recommend Cacio e Vino for that purpose, but 2nd Av. between 4th and 5th may be further than you want to go. At that hour, though, you may have a fighting chance of getting in without a wait, or much of one, they always seem to have a good half-price bottle of wine, and the vibe there is convivial and fun. Excellent pizza, schiacciate (two slices of super-thin bread with filling in the middle), and some very nice appetizers and pleasant desserts. I believe they also take reservations.
