Burma Tea Leaf

Was out in the Richmond yesterday and walked into Burma Tea Leaf, a pretty little restaurant on Clement St between 8th & 9th. We had Tea Leaf Salad, Prawn Curry and Sautéed Pea Sprouts. The Tea Leaf salad was pleasant. It had a fair amount of iceberg lettuce, which made it much sweeter than the versions I've had at Burma Superstar and Little Yangon. Prawns were served in a mild yellow curry, livened up with jalapeno slices and a couple of whole birds-eye chilies. The prawns themselves had good texture and flavor. And the Pea Sprouts were delicious, delicately cooked, and flavored a bit differently than in Chinese cooking, although I couldn't identify the flavor exactly. Something like sesame oil but not exactly the same.

Lunch for two, with rice and tea: $29. While I don't think I'd drive across town to go there, I would come back for another meal if I was in the neighborhood.

  1. Thanks for your report. This is the location of what was called Pagan Restaurant, then renamed Bagan a few months ago. Pagan 1 Restaurant LLC filed a fictitious business name notice December 10 to operate under the name Burma Tea Leaf 1. Does the menu have both Burmese and Thai dishes like Pagan did? It might be the same operator, just a different name.

Thanks. There is a new place in Daly City called Burma Cafe that i haven't had a chance to check out yet. Since you've made the rounds and have tried Little Yangon, I'd love to hear what you think of it.

ETA: I created a Places link but it will take a few minutes to show up.

Thanks Melanie! I will check out Burma Cafe as we're much closer to Daly City than to the Richmond.

    2. This is closed. There's a transfer to new owner placard in the window.

Which place is closed? Burma cafe in Daly City or Burma Tea Leaf?
