new indian restaurant donlands & danforth

I was told a new restaurant called India Kitchen is opening right next to the Only Cafe where Taco King used to be. Excited to have more indian restaurants on the danforth now. I'd love to know if anyone has more info on it.

Have tried the new Dim Sum place. It was a bit chaotic but it was only their second day open. Certainly doesn't compare to some of our favourite spots in china town but it was good, will definitely go back for a dim sum fix!

India Kitchen/Taco Time is now a Dim Sum place. Not sure if they are actually open yet but there has been activity inside and the sign is up. Hoping for the best but have my doubts they can survive this location. The mediocre places that do are generally appealing to students for lunch and/or halal.

I drove past this the other day and thought about how cursed this location seems to be.

I was told this is opening in two weeks.

India Kitchen seems to have closed. Tried it once, very mediocre. Have not tried Aravind's yet, will do so soon, seems to be in a different, better league, we need more regional and non-generic South Asian foods esp in the downtown core

It is an offshoot of the location in Markham and will have a similar menu. Finally some competition for the other places on Danforth. I see nobody except Chatto and Toronto Life has mentioned the last new Indian place on Danforth. That one is too rich for me.

I'll have to check it out.
Which is "the last new Indian place on Danforth"?

Aravind. I posted on it here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/744667

There are also these two reviews:

              http://www.torontolife.com/daily/daily-dish/opening-daily-dish/2010/12/14/introducing-aravind-an-authentic-south-indian-restaurant-in-greektown/

I would have expected a few more posts from other Chowhounds, but hardly anyone posted.

India Kitchen is not in the same league as Aravind. The service at Aravind--while a little slow--is very elegant and welcoming.

Have you tried India Kitchen? I haven't driven by there and looked, but someone had told me it appeared to have closed in April.

We'll have to pay Aravind a second visit but I don't see many raves about it here, not even 1/10 as many reviews as the hounds favourite, Copper Chimney.

I tried it when it first opened. We brought it home and had to drain the oil off the top of the curries. We haven't been back since.

I have been to Aravind several times and everything has been great with the exception of the saag paneer (which for some reason seems to include chunky veggies like broccoli or something like it). It is Keralan - south indian with an emphasis on veggies and seafood. The atmosphere is more western than some indian restos and service is very nice/elegant. Good wine list. The only thing that kind of failed was the crab biriyani - everyone raved about it but think it fell flat at my table.

A while back, I mistook this new Markham ' INDIAkitchen ' place as an offshoot of the 'really good' ' INDIANkitchen at Yonge and Clark! Had some lamb and chicken dishes for take out. Very mediocre in taste! Not worth my returning. Indiankitchen in Thornhill is way better!
