Did the warehouse ever reopen after the state shut it down in July?
From the news reports, it appears that the place was still closed in September when the state issued a cease-and-desist order to the owner for calling himself a practicing veterinarian even though he had surrendered his license 11 years ago in the face of complaints.
Witholding food from animals under his care for up to five days? Really?
It does take a long time for such things to wind through the investigations, of course. Even though the E. Coli outbreak happened last spring, the state's final ruling that it was in fact caused by Hartmann Dairy (one of Traditional Foods Warehouse's raw milk suppliers) did not come down until two weeks ago:
Nearly every conversation about what constitutes "goodness" in food -- local, organic, sustainable, whatever -- comes back to knowing the provider. From what is known so far, is this really the best provider we've got?
The embargo has been lifted at the warehouse. They are adding products carefully and gradually. You probably won't be able to get any information about raw milk as people are boing more and more careful.
There's a website called realmilk.com where you might be able to get more specific information. There is also going to be a raw milk symposium either this month or next month at Macalester College.
As KTFoley says, just start getting to know people.
re: shoo bee doo
yes Trad Foods Warehouse is open again, that's why I mentioned it. And there have been crackdowns on raw milk operations all over the country over the past year, which either means that there truly was illness/bacteria, or that the conventional dairy industry doesn't like competition from raw milk vendors. and they will connect you with a farmer who has raw milk, not Hartmann.
