I need ideas for jamaican side dishes

I'm going to be cooking up some jerk chicken in my smoker and would like to complete the meal with some good side dishes. For the starch I'm torn between festival and rice & peas. Fried plantains are probably traditional but neither my wife or myself are big fans of plantain.

Does anyone have any ideas for a good veggie side or even another starch?

    Fish Tea is a good soup that has plenty of starches in it.

            I also add a bit of allspice, which should complement the chicken and cider vinegar, the sweetness of which will mellow the heat in your marinade.

              Sounds good. I like your idea to add some allspice to it.

              In addition allspice being in the jerk rub I plan on putting some whole berries in the coals to add some extra flavor to the smoke.

              Howsabout casava leaves (maybe more African than Jamaican) or calaloo? Just search for a recipe that you'd like - kinda like collards.

                Casava might be hard to come by, and I think you're right about it being more African than Jamaican.

                I like the calaloo idea. Maybe I'll try it with collards.
