Best Burritos North County Coastal Area

  • h

I will be coming to Encinitas soon. Whenever I come to CA. I've got to get my fill of burritos. Please direct me to your favorite burrito shops in Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad or North County coastal areas.

Thanks

  1. Our family's favorite is Raul's shack on the corner of Coast Highway 101 and D Street in downtown Encinitas right near the 7-11 store. But don't mix it up with the other Mexican place next to it (I think it's Filiberto's)...Raul's is just a small takeout window with a couple picnic benches right near the street. Easy to miss but great. The grandma is cooking and the grandson is serving.

For a sit-down place, you might want to check out Bety's Tacos, further east in Encinitas, in a strip mall just east of the intersection of El Camino Real and Encinitas Blvd. Look for the kiosk that makes keys, and Bety's is behind it in the center of the strip mall. Again, a family operation with really good Mexican food.

I don't eat carne asada burritos, but my hubby and kids love them, and Raul's has always been their favorite with Bety's a close second. When we go to Raul's, we take the food down the street and sit at Moonlight Beach. I love Raul's fish tacos and chicken soup, which is amazing, with large chunks of avocado and fantastic broth. The carnitas tacos are also great.

Second Raul's. My boyfriend and I always make a stop there when we are in Encinitas.

    2. My favorite burritos are at Rudy's Taco Shop. They have two locations - one in La Costa and one in Solana Beach. I enjoy the California burritos, the breakfast burritos (egg and bean with chicken is my fave, but they are all good) and the Carne Asada burrito.

Second favorite spot for burritos is Juanitas. It is located on Highway 101 in Leucadia and looks like a dump, but it's pretty good.

Juanitas Taco Shop in Leucadia has terrific carnitas burritos. However, they are real gut bombs (i.e., soaked in lard) so plan your visit when can also schedule an afternoon nap.

I 2nd rudys. I love there carne asada. Im there at least once a week.

        2. I live in Encinitas and there are not any burritos in the area that are anything special.
Since finding El Nopalito market on Santa Fe drive I buy the ingredients and make it at home.
Recently I started buying masa there to make my own corn tortillas which are great.
They do have a small restaurant I have been wanting to try.
Another place that is acceptable is Jorge's which is also on Santa Fe drive which has fantastic chicken soup similar to Raul's. They also have a location on El Camino Real and the burritos are decent.
The best burrito I have had in SD county is at a place called La Perla Tapatio which hidden away in north east oceanside at the corner of Vandegrift and North River Rd.

Pantani it's great to get some N. County insight.

At La Perla Tapatio what burrito do you order and what elevates it above the other N. County offerings.

I'm going to check them out.

            Thanks for the rec....

La Perla Tapatio I found this place by accident on a bike ride that I do every so often.
It is like a mexican deli combined with a store and panaderia.
They have a long counter filled with all kinds of ingredients.
You basically can tell them what you want to put in it but I usually get beans, rice, cheese, salsa, lettuce, guacamole. Being a panaderia it maybe that they make there own flour tortillas but I have noticed the tortillas here seem better than average. All the ingredients are freshly made. They don't understand english too well so it helps to know some espanol.
One time another customer had to help me out with ordering. I like sopes a lot so I got those once and they where very good. Its a long way to go from Encinitas but if you near Oceanside its worth a visit. My wife has gone with me there a few times while on a bike ride and she also liked it. If you go let me know what you think. I have been a life long burrito fan and this is as good as it gets in San Diego IMHO. Of course some people (like my daughter) like a greasy carne asada burrito with french fries inside so it all depends on what you are after.

                        Me?

Nah. Currently in Barriloche, Patagonia, Argentina eating everything in sight. Drinking it, too. Had a great meal today at a horse-riding campo many dirt road kilometers out of town, prepared by a family in a tiny kitchen, meats roasted over an open fire. Large outside room, big dining table, group of about a dozen, plus one horse who kept coming into the room for a breadstick. Last week was Buenos Aires.

            2. Hands down, no questions asked. Carne Asada Burrito @ Rudy's in SB.

              1. Oops, just posted this in the best taco in Coastal North County...
By far, Mexico Viejo in the Vons shopping center at El Camino Real & Hwy 78, has the best burritos (especially California and fish).! Mmmm!

Ok valerie, since you've sold them so hard I'll give them a try only because I live very close by. It's just their Yelp reviews aren't very good. A good burrito is hard to pass up.

I would like to add the Juanita's in vista has one the best chicken burrito, and I prefer this location far better than the one on PCH. Their hotsauce is amazing and it's the closest to the legendary hot sauce from Roberto's in the 80's. To me the hot sauce or salsa is what separates the great burritos from the average ones. And It's much more intimate and you get personal one on one service vs feeling like a tourist at PCH and their volume also IMO makes the quality go down.
