J & R Cafe - good Americano

By chance I saw that there's a cafe on the mezzanine level of J & R Computers down at Park Place. Not sure how long the cafe's been there. Since I've been making croissants at home I pay attention to croissants around town. The plain one here looked well shaped, properly sized (not like the uniformly splayed out ones you see everywhere). I asked for an Americano, not expecting much, especially not after that oily and dirty brown watery one I got, in a paper cup, from Jacques Torres' downtown. Well, the coffee came in a real cup, Danesi coffee, with a nice fine foam on top, and creamy rich taste! The croissant is light and delicately flavorful that taste like it was made with good cultured sweet cream. Because it was after 5 (cafe closes at 6), all pastries are 50% off. A slice of coconut cake, a plain croissant and an Americano came to $6.22. Not a bad deal. I asked the woman (who made the good americano) who made their pastries, she said they make it upstairs. I wonder...

The cafe opened in July. Sounds way better than it has to be.

There's a Mediterranean-leaning menu of sandwiches, salads, pizza, etc. ... http://www.jr.com/media/images/promot... . Anyone checked it out?
