Grocery stores Aspen and nearby

Heading to Aspen and wondering if anyone knows of good grocery stores nearby. We are aware of City Market but would love to know if there are other smaller gourmet places to pick up provisions. We will be in a condo for a week and will be cooking. Thanks all!! Any other Aspen info. is certainly welcome!!

Add to the list Epicurious in El Jebel. It is in the adjacent strip mall to City Market in El Jebel. City Market in Aspen is under going a remodel and it is a mess...although open (it closed for a few weeks in Nov.) The Cheese Shop is a fabulous resource for wonderful cheese, crackers and there is a little deli in the same shop that sells a limited selection of Italian meats. Clark's Market is def more expensive than City Market, but has a deli for meats...and they've added some prepared meals which are good.
For breakfast - be sure to add the new French Bakery...which just opened in Aspen a couple of weeks ago. You will be transported to Paris - their pastries are really THAT good. Add to that the most charming decor of any place in Aspen and you'll want to enjoy a coffee and croissant every morning.
There is another new small grocery at the AABC (Aspen Airport Business Center) right across the street from the airport - Roxi's. They carry some nice local meats you can't buy at other grocery stores - like local chickens from Paonia and beef from a ranch in Carbondale.
Butchers Block has a nice assortment and good products - but the prices are nuts. Assume everything is at least $25-30 pd and it goes up from there. ouch.

Thanks Nevinn! Just a couple questions... Could you tell me a little about the Epicurious shop? What types of things are there? Does it have perishables or just packaged items? I will definitely get to the City Market in El Jebel since your comment about the remodeling gives me yet another reason to avoid the Aspen City Market. We will also stop at Roxi's on the way out of the airport. Appreciate the help! And, I can already smell the croissants........

Epicurious has perishables -- meats, seafoods, etc. Also some prepare salads, appetizers. Its selection of groceries is limited. There is also a good kitchen store in the adjacent shopping center (WIllits) and a Saturday farmers market there too. I have not been to the farmers market but I hear it has local meats, etc....

There's a Clark's Market on Puppy Smith Road, behind and down the hill from the Hotel Jerome. The Butcher's Block on Spring Street has excellent meats, seafood, cheese, fancy condiments, etc. -- and high prices. I believe there's a fairly new cheese shop on Hopkins, but I've never been there. If you are driving down from I-70/Glenwood Springs, stop at the City Market in El Jebel (or is it in Basalt?). It is larger, and has the best selection around and also better prices than anything in Aspen.

Thanks Claire! I think that we will drive over to that City market since I have always been pretty underwhelmed by the one in Aspen. Thanks for the tip on Clarks Market. I have never heard of them. Is the Butcher's Block the one that is adjacent to the City market?

Re "Is the Butcher's Block the one that is adjacent to the City market?" I believe so. A Whole Foods is/was supposed to be built in Basalt but the developer ran into financial problems and it remains just a hole in the ground. Maybe next summer; maybe not.
