Noodle Boat

Teknotic Jan 2, 2011 12:01 AM

I read in Seattle Magazine that Noodle Boat in Issiquah is supposed to be one of the best Thai restaurants in the entire Seattle area. Being that I live in North Seattle, I'm wondering : Is Noodle Boat really that great? I've been to several Thai places and while some are better or worse than others, none of them really seem to be really all THAT different from each other. Is this place really heads and shoulders above all the rest of them? And if so, is it really THAT much better as to justify driving all the way from Northgate to Issaquah for Thai food when there are 8 different restaurants within 5 minutes of me?

Yes. It's the ONLY place in the Seattle area that I think is different than any other place. I had just about stopped eating Thai because I feel like every place in Seattle is the exact same--same menu, same taste, etc. But Noodle Boat has a large menu, with dishes I've never heard of, and it's fantastic. Have you read the posts about it here (beginning a iittle ways down)?

And have you seen this blog post, with beautiful pictures, by a Seattle Mag writer? This pretty much captures it--if the pics and descriptions here don't interest you, I don't know what will.

It is not as good as the famous Lotus of Siam in Vegas, but I think it's easily as good, if not better, than the NYC favorite SriPraPrai.

May Thai is fine but not special, IMO. It is a nice space, though.

May Thai is Americanized and crap. Avoid.

And not even good service to hide the fact that it's crap.

My Yelp core group of friends always go here, and make events to go here. But i hate driving to Issaquah (and always get lost trying to do so or run out of gas trying), so i have yet to give up the fight and try it.

This post is weakening my resistance, though.

Noodle Boat is good – much better than most of the Seattle restaurants serving dumbed-down, overly sweet, Americanized versions of Thai Food. Even Noodle Boat makes some concessions for their many non-Thai customers, but these concessions are minor in comparison to most Thai restaurants in Seattle. If you live near Northgate, why not try Savatdee at 5801 Roosevelt Way NE. I think their Thai and Lao food is far above the dismal Seattle norm for quality and authenticity.
