Bitter orange marmalade

Does anybody know where I can find (British or Scottish) bitter orange marmalade? Trader Joe used to carry it but no more.

  1. You'll find it a few different places in the East Bay -- traditional bitter Seville orange marmalade as well as other citrus marmalades. Berkeley Bowl, Andronico's, Piedmont Grocery and Star Grocery all have some combination of imported (although not necessarily all that great) British marmalades and marmalades made by small local producers (which do not all equally approximate traditional store-bought British marmalade as some are goopier and others are made with less sugar).

There was a local brand called Mum's (or something like that) stocked at Piedmont Grocery but I haven't seen it in a while.

In SF Rainbow Grocery has a reasonably large selection of jams and might be worth a shot too.

    1. Blue Chair makes one with one with Seville oranges, white cane sugar, brown cane sugar, bourbon and star anise.

      1. The best marmalade is made by June Taylor. All the rest are okay, but they don't have the same bright flavor, and minimal sugar.

I beg to differ... June Taylor's jams, syrups, fruit cheeses and other products are amazing. But if the OP is looking for something that tastes like conventional, traditional British marmalade, June Taylor's marmalades probably won't go down too well with him. (Especially if he's after Dundee brand, which is quite sweet.)

If OP is looking for Dundee (which is what I have bought at TJs in the past), he might also try Cost Plus. I'm pretty sure I've seen it there, although I haven't looked recently.

        2. The two Trader Joe's I frequent (Mountain View and Sunnyvale) still carry it.

          1. Try Cost Plus World Market. I can't remember the brand, but it's there.
