First time to SGV tonight. Where is the best place to try first?

We want to start the new year out with some good Chinese. Where should we go and what should we order there?

Depends on what you're looking for. Any specific preferences or things you'd like to avoid?

      Cool!

Call ahead of course, but I might do Newport Seafood on Las Tunas, order some good whole crab, lobster and/or fish, salt-and-pepper pork chops, French-style beef. Mmm.

Or, if you can take the heat, I'd hit Yunnan 168 on San Gabriel, clean out the appetizer buffet, get some rice noodle soup, cumin lamb, shredded potatoes.

I'm far from an expert, but those would be my two picks for dependably good, "user-friendly" chow.
