Craft Review - New Year's Eve

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Craft last night for New Year's Eve. After carefully scouring this board for recommendations, we were really excited to go, and we definitely enjoyed our meal.

We started with the crispy bacon app and the frisee and hazelnut salad. The crispy bacon was delicious - really more like pork belly. I went a little nuts over it. The boyfriend thought it was too fatty, but he's never really been one for that kind of taste and texture. We both really enjoyed the salad - the mix of frisee, hazelnuts, and pancetta was great in terms of both taste and texture.

For our main dish, we split the short ribs, which I absolutely loved. We had a side of the roasted carrots, which I think were my favorite dish of the night - thanks to the board for this rec, because I don't think I would have ordered it otherwise. The only miss of the night was the duck risotto, which we both thought was sort of meh. It was the only dish we didn't completely finish off. I'm a big fan of risotto, and this just completely missed the mark for me.

I thought we ordered just enough food. I know a lot of the posts on this board suggest that two people order two apps and two mains, but given that we were going to a party later on where there was going to be food, we figured this was going to be plenty, and we were both full enough to skip dessert at the restaurant, although the menu did look really good. I think if we had ordered a lighter main - we were hoping the scallops would be on the menu, but they weren't - then we might have needed a second one, or a third side, but the one main dish worked well for us.

Overall, we really enjoyed our experience, and would definitely go back. Craft was a bit of a splurge for us, but it was a great meal, and I'd definitely head there again for a special occasion.
